ST. CHARLES HOSPITAL | ER EXPANSION

HEALTHCARE

St. Charles Hospital needed to expand capacity of its Emergency Department while also providing separate space for substance abuse patients. However, the hospital faced some challenges. First, they needed to avoid disruption to ongoing operations of the existing ER during construction. Second, the dense urban campus had very little space for construction laydown. SMART OFF-SITE CONSTRUCTION helped overcome these challenges.

Fabrication of modules was moved off site to MODLOGIQ’s plant while site prep/work—which included pouring a required 18’ high retaining wall—took place at the hospital. Moving ~85% of the work off site greatly minimized construction hazards, dust, and noise—enabling the existing ER to remain open and dramatically reducing the space needed for construction laydown. Also, the simultaneous process shortened the schedule by 40%, further minimizing impact on hospital patients, staff, and visitors.

The project added 4,000 square feet and includes 10 additional treatment bays, a larger waiting room, and additional nursing and charting stations, as well as a separate waiting room and treatment area for those seeking chemical dependency detoxification. It adheres to all FGI Guidelines, Building Codes, and Article 28 Diagnostic & Treatment standards. Even with these stringent requirements, modular construction helped meet strict budget requirements due to funding by a NYS grant.
